Adapter placement Quick Reference Table for Version 4 Release 2

This document gives information on recommended adapter configurations. It is the best information we have to date, and we will update it when later information is available. If you still have problems after following this guidance, then please call IBM Software Support.

Note: The DTQA adapter (Digital Trunk Quad Adapter) is not supported by Blueworx Voice Response V4.2 or later.

Note: The DTXA adapter (Quad Digital Trunk Telephony PCI Adapter) is not supported by Blueworx Voice Response V6.1 or later.

Blueworx Voice Response supports Brooktrout TR114-P16S and TR1034 Fax adapters in certain systems as described in the system specific guidelines.
Note: The Brooktrout TR114-P16S Fax adapter requires a 5V PCI slot. See the guidance for your machine type for more details.
To attach the Brooktrout SCBus connector to the H.100 DTXA connector it is necessary to use a combination of the following features:

  • Feature 2877: H.100, 4-Drop Cable
  • Feature 4354: H.100, 8-Drop Cable

To install the Brooktrout adapter TR114-P16S and have it recognized by AIX in systems with Hot Plug PCI slots (eg 7026-6H1) it is necessary to install a special resistor pack in place of the 20-pin PEB resistor pack which is removed. The Brooktrout FAX adapter TR114-P16S, special resistor pack, and instructions on when and how to install it are available from Brooktrout as Part Number 900-116-09.

Note: Information on the placement of other adapters can be obtained from the PCI Adapter Placement Reference SA38-0538.

General Adapter guidance

  1. DTXAs must be close enough to allow the H.100/SCBus cable connection.
  2. All installed DTXAs must be connected together with the H.100/SCBus cable which also connects to a Brooktrout adapter.
  3. DTTAs/DTEAs must be close enough to allow the H.100 cable connection.
  4. All installed DTTAs must be connected together with the H.100 cable.
  5. All installed DTEAs must be connected together with the H.100 cable.
  6. The Brooktrout Fax adapter TR114-P16S is only supported in combination with the DTXA adapter. (It is not supported in combination with the DTTA or DTEA adapters)
  7. The Brooktrout Fax adapter TR1034 is only supported in combination with the DTTA adapter. (It is not supported in combination with the DTXA adapters)
Note: It will co-exist with the DTEA adapter but it is not possible to send or receive FAXes using the DTEA adapter.
  8. IBM PCI Token Ring Adapters (14101800) MUST be in logical slot numbers less than the DTXAs.
  9. DTXAs and DTTAs may NOT be installed together.

LPAR guidance

  1. BVR only supports LPAR on the following systems:
    p5 520 Type 9111-520
    p5 520 Type 9131-52A
    p5 550 Type 9113-550
    p5 550 Type 9133-55A
    p5 570 Type 9117-570
    p6 520 Type 8203-E4A
    p6 550 Type 8204-E8A
    p6 570 Type 9117-MMA

Note: BVR will also run on these systems in non-LPAR mode, both for AIX 5.2, AIX 5.3 and AIX 6.1.
  2. BVR supports LPAR on AIX 5.3 ML02 or higher.
  3. BVR can be installed in either of the following and this install is defined as one instance:
A single Dynamic Logical Partition as provided by AIX 5.3
A system running a single image of AIX 5.2 or 5.3, and NOT using LPAR
  4. Although the systems indicated above in general can host many LPAR's, any given system is limited to a maximum of two LPAR's hosting BVR.
  5. One or two additional I/O drawers may be required to attach to the systems in order to provide sufficient slots for BVR hardware adapters and any other adapters used by the system or LPARs.
  6. Where a BVR instance has more than one hardware adapter, the adapters must be linked with an internal H.100 cable, and hence must reside in the same system or I/O drawer, ideally in adjacent slots. The pSeries 7311-D20 I/O Drawer supports 7 adapters therefore to support two LPARs of 4 adapters each requires two pSeries 7311-D20 I/O Drawers to be attached.
  7. The DTXA adapter, SS8 SS7 adapter, and Brooktrout TR1034 FAX adapter are not supported in LPARs.
  8. All Telephony adapters in each LPAR must be installed in the same physical unit (System or 7311-D20 I/O Drawer).
  9. Where a system is hosting two BVR LPARs, the adapters of each BVR LPAR are separate and require separate H.100 cables.
  10. Virtualisation and micro partitioning in LPARs is not supported. This limitation means that each LPAR requires its own Ethernet communications, SCSI disk adapters as well as disks.
  11. It is recommended NOT to run other applications in the same LPAR (or system, if LPAR is not used), as BVR. However, this is not mandatory.
  12. It is recommended that any LPAR hosting BVR should have at least 2 processors, especially where production loads are envisaged.

  1. A maximum of 4 DTXAs or 4 DTEAs or 4 DTTAs may be installed.
DTXAs and DTTAs may NOT be installed together.
    Note:

The 8-drop H.100 cable (FC 4353) should be used for installations with three or more DTXA adapters installed. This is because of the extra wide gap between PCI slots 2 and 3 which the 4-drop cable is not capable of spanning.
Be sure to use each end of the 8-drop cable and any other drops in-between that are required, the remaining drops can be left unconnected. If only two DTXA adapters are installed, the 4-drop cable will work as long as they are installed in slots 1 & 2 or slots 3 & 4.
  2. A maximum of 4 DTXAs, 4 DTTAs or 4 DTEAs may be installed in an attached pSeries 7311-D20 I/O Drawer.
