A BVR issue has been discovered when AIX is updated to the following levels:
- AIX 7.1 TL5 SP07
- AIX 7.2 TL5 SP02
When starting BVR either with vaeinit or vaeinit.nox scripts, it triggers an AIX crash and a reboot of the machine.
In addition, if the dtauto entry in /etc/inittab is defined then this will result in an endless reboot loop.
AIX introduced extra invalid lock checking, which caused the DTNA device driver (vnaio) to crash.
Resolving the problem
To fix this issue, install the following BVR Fix Updates:
The endless reboot loop can be stopped by commenting out the dtauto entry as soon as the system reboots and the user is able to log in as root.
If you can't update BVR to the fix update above, then restore a backup to an earlier AIX fix level.
