An issue has been discovered when AIX is updated to AIX 7.1 TL5 SP07 on a BVR machine.

When starting BVR either with vaeinit or vaeinit.nox scripts, it triggers a reboot of the machine.

In addition, if the dtauto entry in /etc/inittab is defined then this will result in an endless reboot loop.

AIX introduced extra invalid lock checking, which caused the DTNA device driver (vnaio) to crash.

Resolving the problem

To fix this issue, install the following BVR Fix Updates:

The endless reboot loop can be stopped by commenting out the dtauto entry as soon as the system reboots and the user is able to log in as root.

Restore a backup to an earlier AIX fix level.
